Maths-Working out my six times

I am learning to work out my six times tables using the compensation strategy.
My problem was I have six friends who have six strawberries each. How many strawberries do I have altogether.

Reading-Main Idea

Yesterday the Roald Dahl reading group learnt how to interveiw people. Each of us got to interveiw each other I interveiwed Shaynie-Lee, Sam interveiwed me and Shaynie-lee interveiwed Sam. We did it because we had just finished reading a book called AND THE WINNER IS...we had to think about the main idea and what number we would give it out of 10 or1.

Assembly time!!

Ya!! its assembly time. On the10/8/12 it was Room 11's assembly. My favourite part was when I got to read the Three Little Pigs well not really but our own version of the three little pigs it was called One Fierce Dog and Three Sneaky Cats it was my favourite part because it was made by me, Tawhiao, Sofia and Rhiannon.

My Ideas about Sound

This shows what I knew about sound before we learnt about it (on the left) and on the right what I know now.

Sound

The most interesting thing that I found out learning about sound was that if you use instruments you can make up a story with them. And that sound waves need air to travel through so you can't hear sounds in space.

Measurement

Mass, mass is a kind of measurement we use, Room 11 has been using mass, this is the order from biggest to smallest, tonnes (T), kilograms (kg), Grams (g), pounds (lbs) and milligrams (mg).

Length, length is a kind of measurement we use, Room 11 has been using length, this is the order from biggest to smallest, kilometers (km), meters (m), centimeters (cm) and millimeters (mm).

Procedure Writing

The other day we did a procedure on how to make an Origami whale. My instructions were clear but it did not turn out right because there was a point at the top. Next time I will make my instructions clearer.

Reciprocal Reading

The Roald Dahl group has learnt how to do reciprocal reading, that means one person at a time gets to be teacher. Reciprocal reading has helped us a lot with reading because lets say Shaynie-Lee was the teacher and Tawhiao was reading to her while the rest of the group read, and he came to a word he did not know. Then Shaynie-Lee and the rest of the group could help him and he could one day see that word and know what it means himself and how to say it.

Eating our vegetables

The other day the Middle Enviro.Agents ate the broccoli they grew. We cut some of the stalks off and we carred it back to the staff room. Megan took photos, me Susanna and Sarah Reed washed the food, Nikita grated the cheese and the rest of the Enviro.Agents chopped the food once we had cleaned it. And once we had finished our job we helped Mrs Head make the cheese sauce. We read the recipe to her so she knew what to do for the baking. Once we had finshed we got to eat it yum yum!

Awesome Arbor Day

On Friday 1/6/12 the Enviro. Agents went to Arbor Day which was just opposite the Hamilton Zoo. It took a long time to get there and people were singing the wheels on the bus it drove me on an adventure. It was really hot oh well lets just get back to Arbor Day. Me, Megan and Ella meet a lady from a different school she helped us plant more than 20 trees. We were puffed at the end. At the end we got a just juce drink and two sausages. And finally we left carrying our spades in one hand when we got to the end of the track people were giving out koiwhai trees, we each got two trees. So we were left carrying our spade in one hand and two koiwhai trees in the other hand. It was a long trip back to school. Manaia took her Horton Hears A Who book out and was reading it on the way back. I was not lucky I was by her because she was reading it out loud and it made me fel tired because it was like she was my mum and it was night time and it was story time she made me fall asleep zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz when I woke up we were at school I was the last one to hop out. We got to our class room I got half a hours sleep at lunch then tawhiaos cousin Ethan woke me up cause the bell went.

Mini Speech

My mini speech was on what I would spend $500 on if I won it. Next time I will try not to look at my book as much and speak loudly and clearly.

Big Speech.

On Wednesday I did my speech on Elton John and the Muppet's. I know lots of facts about him and the songs he sings.I remember when a rock was Young me and Susy had so much fun holding hands and skimming stones I remember when a chaby and a place of my own but the biggest kick I ever got was doing a thing called the crocodile rock while the other kids were rocking round the clock we were hopping and bopping to the crocdile rock and qater rocking the sun was hot and when your feet just can't keep still I never knew me a better time and I guess I never will row rada mama takes Friday nights when Suzy who dresses tight an

The other day we did our play called big city noises. I was Meg, Shaynielee was Bruno the guide dog Tawhiao was uncle Shane and Alex was dad. Next time I will talk louder. What I did well was I practiced my lines.

Book fair.

Today we visited the book fair in our school library. My favaurite book was wildlife you can colour it in. After morning tea Miss workman came in and read to us.

Amelia has 19 friends and she has 38 lollipops. How much will they each get?


   38 divided by 19 = 2

swimming

My goal for swimming is freestyle
I am going to achieve this by practicing every day.

Tally charts

Last week we did tally charts. I did it with Rhiannon. We learnt how to do the line with a line across it. We make tally charts because we dont want to go 1 line 2 line 3 and so we can skip count in fives easily.
